印象に残ったシーン
ベアトリスは、検査後にすぐ聞けると思っていた結果が「perplexing（複雑）」だと言われ、結果を待っている間一気に不安になります。どの派閥でもなかったらfactionless（無派閥）として貧困社会で生きていかないといけない、と一人で深刻に考えているときのこちらの文章が印象的でした。
To live factionless is not just to live in poverty and discomfort; it is to live divorced from society, separated from the most important thing in life: community.

簡単に和訳すると、「『無派閥』として生きるのはただ貧しく不便なところで生活をするということだけではない。社会から切り離され、人生で一番大切な『コミュニティ』をも失うことになる。」
多くの人にとっては普通の文章かもしれないのですが、今の私はビザの関係でアメリカ社会の中である意味 factionless（自分の所属する場所が無い）のような気分なので(笑)、この部分が印象的でした。私の場合社会的な所属がないものの、他での居場所（コミュニティ）があることでその有り難みをすごく感じているので、ベアトリスのコミュニティを失う怖さにとても共感しました。
そして、その後には下記が続き、こちらも同じような理由で印象に残りました。
...we can’t survive alone, but even if we could, we wouldn’t want to. Without a faction, we have no purpose and no reason to live.

（簡単な和訳: 私たちは一人では生きられない。一人で生きられるとしても、それは選ばないだろう。所属する派閥がなければ、生きる目的も理由もない。）
最近よく思うのが、一人で家にいても生きていけるように思えるけど、実際は自分の身の回りにある全てが「他の誰か」が一生懸命働いて作り出してくれたもの、届けてくれたもので、何一つ自分で一から用意したものはありません。なので、「他の誰か」がいてくれないと周りには何も残らないし、今の生活はできません。自分はたくさんの「誰か」に支えられてるんだな〜とつくづく思います。
一方で、当たり前ですが「会社」とか「仕事」はそれぞれの得意分野で「他の誰か」の生活を支えているんですよね。前まではそういう意識が無く、一会社や一組織としてしか見てきませんでしたが、今はいろんな会社・組織が眩しく見え、感謝と尊敬の気持ちでいっぱいになります。
以上、Divergent 第3章から学んだ英語・感じたことでした。
