"A warm meal to cleanse your soul." This phrase from a Demon Slayer's episode resonated with my heart and changed my thought on meals.
You Are What You Eat
I've never thought of my soul when I'm eating and I assume that's pretty ordinary. However, come to think of it, this scene makes sense to me.
When I eat too many snacks or unhealthy foods, I don't feel like doing anything or not that energetic. Whereas when I have healthy meals, I'm being vigorous to tackle tasks at hand.
Maybe food is working not only on our physical health but also on mental health. Likewise, the saying "You are what you eat" may not only be referring to the body but also to our hearts and souls.
To be honest, I feel so lazy to fix a meal especially when I eat alone at home. But hearing this phrase, I became to think in a different way. The meal is not there for just being consumed or satisfying my appetite. Eating is one way to care about myself from a much deeper level.
So, I decided to pay more attention to what to eat and how I can care for my body and soul. Though adjusting to a new habit takes time, I believe gradual good changes lead to a better myself.
At the same time, I will keep in mind that there are countless people and materials behind the food in front of us. I will appreciate those who provide the food—such as farmers, fishermen, truck drivers, people working in the food industries, the staff of the grocery stores, and more— and any other things that helped nourish the foods (e.g. the soil, water, and the sun, etc.)
I almost forgot to mention that I need to appreciate the food which becomes part of me, which I learned far back at my elementary school.
This reminded me of my other post about "all is connected" of which I was impressed by Fullmetal Alchemist.
I can't wait to find other impressive scenes from anime again.
